“When news broke of a fire at St Comgall’s Church last Wednesday evening, I was absolutely aghast and horrified that anyone should seek to damage this beautiful and sacred place, so deeply loved by its congregation and its clergy, both serving and retired, and also by many others throughout the locality.
Those responsible need to be apprehended and brought before the courts as quickly as possible, and I certainly remain confident that, with forensic and other additional information, the police should be successful in this case.
As the congregation of St Comgall’s repairs the physical damage caused by this attack, I trust they find encouragement from the strong support offered by many of us throughout North Down, who utterly condemn such wanton vandalism and intimidation.
I greatly look forward to visiting again soon to see it restored to its original beauty.”
