Speaking from Westminster on the morning of the RNIB’s Lobby of Parliament on the Disability Living Allowance, Lady Hermon said:
“It’s iniquitous that blind and other visually impaired people are not yet able to receive the higher rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), despite facing many of the greatest barriers to safe and independent living.
Although the RNIB has been campaigning in good faith with the Government to change the current disqualification, its campaign has so far been in vain. I remain fully committed to righting this injustice.
So, later today, I’ll be meeting constituents from North Down who are at Westminster in order to persuade the Government to have a re-think. I’ll be taking on board their concerns, and will certainly continue to raise them with Ministers at the highest level.”
